Shine Bright Family Day Care

Hello all, my name is Rocio Galdamez and I am 53 years old. I have three children and three grandchildren.

I was working as a Nanny for the past 12 years. I started taking care of a little girl when she was only three months old and now she’s 12 years old and in her first year of middle school.

During the pandemic in 2020 I started taking the Child Development class with Mrs. Rory and Mrs. Guzman; my only desire at that moment was to study to be more prepared for a new job. But I started dreaming of having my own daycare. My boss's best friend was planning to close her daycare and she encouraged me to open my own at home. Thankfully she was able to provide me with a lot of the items she already had, so I could start my own daycare.

I decided to give it a try and started doing some adjustments to my house. I invested in turf for my backyard as I want my daycare to look the best. I bought a few play yard toys for the children to enjoy. My goal was to prepare a safe and nice place for the children.

I looked into the requirements for Licensing. I took the orientation online, and completed a test and I passed. Then I filled out the application and took it in person to the office in Monterey Park for my application to be processed.

A few of the requirements is to have our immunizations to date including influenza, TB test for all the adults living in the house. Another requirement is for all adults to pass a criminal record and fingerprints too. I also had to take a mandated reporter class, CPR, first aid class, Health and Safety class.

The process was challenging, but it was worth it. I submitted my application on July 22nd, and on August 28th I got my Pre-Licensing. And finally in the 2nd week of September 2021 I received my License.

I encourage you to challenge yourself, if one of your goals is to work with kids, you can do it. I truly love working with kids and my goal is to care and provide love. While the parents are working, their children are happy learning and safe at Shine Bright Family Daycare.

My dream came true; I thank God for all the provisions and my children for all their support, and for all the support of my boss and my teachers for all the patience and hard work.

Sincerely,

Rocio Galdamez
