Venice Skills Center HiSet Success!

We're continuing CCAE Adult Education Week by sharing Marie's inspiring interview regarding her road to HiSet success at Venice Skills Center!

What motivated you in your journey?
"My friends really motivated me in my school journey. They have always been extremely supportive of me, no matter what stage of life I am in. They are super encouraging as well, and offer help and advice when I need it."

What advice would you give to someone hoping to continue their education?
"I would tell them that in the end, it is all up to you. Whether you continue or not, the decision is solely yours. My motto throughout my education thus far has been “Para sa akin,” which in Tagalog means “for me.” It is my reminder that everything I do, everything I accomplish, I’m doing first and foremost for myself. I would tell them if they want to continue their education, to do it for themselves as that is the most important thing."

What is your next goal and what steps are you taking to achieve that?
"My next goal is to go to community college. I hope to take either creative writing or psychology. I am currently applying to Santa Monica College, East Los Angeles College, and Los Angeles City College."

Is there anything else you would like to say about your time at school?
"School for me wasn’t easy, and it definitely did not go the way I thought it would. But, those experiences helped me appreciate myself more and helped me realize what I’m capable of. I’m happy to say that I was able to overcome the challenges that presented themselves and was able to graduate after all."
